Topic: The Real Majesty

The 2024 Daily Fountain Devotional Monday January 1

Text: Psalm 8:1-9

Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory
    in the heavens.
Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
When I consider your heavens,
    the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?

You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor.
You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.

Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

                                                          DISCUSSION

2022 passed as one of the very significant years of our generation. One of the events that marked the year was the passing of Queen Elisabeth II, the longest reigning monarch in British history. Her funeral service, watched by billions of people on earth, was one of the final parts of the public ceremony of her burial. However, one thing that stood out throughout the whole event was the majestic ways that ‘Her Majesty’ was mourned and buried. Watching aspects of this, I couldn’t help but think of the ‘real majesty’- the Lord Himself! When you think of the word ‘majestic’ you will have such image words like imposing, grandiose, magnificent, splendid, resplendent, superb, and impressive in your mind, and this will give you an idea of what God’s name implies.

God’s name cannot be separated from who He is and what He does. A person’s name carries his authority, personality, character and nature. This should help us in appreciative worship. Heaven’s intention is that all over the earth, God’s name should cause such reaction of godly reverent awe! What is more?! His glory, splendour and beauty, are above the heavens! In other words, nothing on earth is sufficient to describe the wonder and magnificence of God. Next time you take time to worship, just remember that He is basically above whatever you can say or imagine. This should make us fall before this awesome God who is the real ‘Majesty!’

Prayer: Indeed, Lord, Your name is truly majestic in all earth!
