STUDY 1
JANUARY 2 2022 2nd Sunday After Christmas
THEME: THE LORD GOD AND THE REIGN OF PEACE
SUB-THEME: God’s Revelation to Humankind
TOPIC: God’s Revelation
TEXTS: Heb. 1:1-6
AIMS:
- to show that: God in time immemorial reveals Himself to mankind and
- to prove the fact that God intervenes in human affairs
INTRODUCTION
Today is the first Sunday of the year. It is our prayer that the Lord Almighty will manifest Himself for our physical and spiritual benefit throughout the year in Jesus’ name.
Literarily, “Revelation” means an uncovering, removal of the veil, and disclosure of what was previously unknown. The revelation of God is His manifestation to humankind. All humankind’s knowledge of God comes by way of revelation. From the creation story till now, God in one way or the other revealed Himself to humans in many various ways (Heb. 1:1-3). The revelation of God refuted the claim of the Deists that God never intervenes in human affairs. We see clearly in Genesis 15:1-7 how God revealed his plan to Abraham. God’s revelation to humankind includes His choice for earthly rulers and His own reign as the best and everlasting.
STUDY GUIDE
- What is your understanding of God’s revelation to humankind?
- From the following passages Gen. 2:15-22; 15: 1-7; and Heb. 1:1 how did God reveal Himself to mankind?
- According to Daniel 2:16-19, how can we receive God’s revelation?
- How can we use Daniel 2:20-21 and 3:24-28 to convince the Deists that God consistently intervenes in human affairs?
CONCLUSION
Modern thought often questions the possibility and reality of God’s revelation to man. Biblical account affirms the reality through various God’s interventions in human affairs.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: By God alone can God be known.
MEMORY VERSE: Heb. 1:1 “Long ago God spoke in many different ways to our fathers through the prophets, in visions, dreams, and even face to face, telling them little by little about his plans.” (Living Bible Translation)

1ST SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY JANUARY 9 2022
THEME: THE LORD GOD AND THE REIGN OF PEACE
SUB-THEME: Means of God’s Revelation to Humankind 1
TOPIC: The Scripture
TEXTS: 2Tim. 3:16-17
AIM:
- to see the scriptures as means of God’s revelation to man and
- to understand the scripture as the voice of God
INTRODUCTION
Today is the First Sunday in Epiphany. It signifies the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles as represented by the Magi in Matthew 2:1-12. Our study texts reveal that the scriptures are given by inspiration of God (2Tim. 3:16-17), and it is the source of our knowledge of Him. The pages of the Bibles are the authoritative revelation in written form of God’s nature and purposes. Clearly, through the scriptures, we have the knowledge of God.
STUDY GUIDE
- With reference to our text, how can you explain the scriptures as the means of God’s revelation? Ref Rom 15:4
- As Christians, why must we constantly study the word of God according to the following passages Psalm 119:105; Romans 10:17; James 1:23-25; 1Pt.2: 2;
- Furthermore, according to Joshua 1:8, what was God’s injunction and benefits to us in regards to the scriptures?
- From contemporary experiences, how are some people exploiting others with the scriptures?
CONCLUSION
The scripture is an inspired word of God that contains the revelations of God. Our constant closeness to it will enlighten us more on the knowledge and plans of God for our lives.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: The mind and the will of God is embedded in the scriptures.
MEMORY VERSE: 2Tim 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”

STUDY 3: 2ND SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY
THEME: THE LORD GOD AND THE REIGN OF PEACE
SUB-THEME: Means of God’s Revelation to Humankind 2
TOPIC: Dreams
TEXT: Genesis 41:17-37
AIMS:
i. to show the importance of dreams from a Biblical perspective and
ii. to ascertain if all Dreams are actually from God
INTRODUCTION:
Dreams are a succession of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that usually occur involuntarily in the mind during sleep. Dreams can summarily be said to be hallucinations that occur during certain stages of sleep. The Bible gives many accounts of God revealing Himself and His will to people through dreams. Some of these pieces of evidence are the focus of our discussion today.
STUDY GUIDE
1. In your own understanding, explain dreams
2. From our text (Genesis 41:33-37) what was God’s plan for Pharaoh and Joseph through the dreams?
3. Are all dreams from God according to the following passages Eccl. 5:3; Jeremiah 23:25-27; 1John. 4:1.
4. With reference to Matt 2:13-15, 19-20, what could be the consequence of disobeying the voice of God through dreams?
CONCLUSION
While dreams are common experiences of humanity, God used them in specific ways to reveal the truth of His mission, purpose to His people. It is, therefore, necessary for us to know that Godly oriented dreams emanate from the spirit and carry specific messages from the Lord.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Godly thoughts results in Godly dreams.
MEMORY VERSE: Matt 2:13 “And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him”

3RD SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY JANUARY, 23, 2022
THEME: THE LORD GOD AND THE REIGN OF PEACE
SUB-THEME: Means of God’s Revelation to Humankind 3
TOPIC: Verbal communication between God and Human
TEXT: 1Sam 3:8-14
⇒ READ IGBO VERSION HERE
AIMS:
- to discuss instances of verbal communications between God and humans in the Bible and
- to expose the bases for hearing the voice of God
INTRODUCTION
Verbal communication is an oral communication wherein the message is transmitted through spoken words. The Bible has many records of God speaks to His people in conversation. In our study text, God spoke audibly to Samuel, but he mistook the audibility to be that of Prophet Eli (human to human). However, he was able to receive God’s message at the third approach (1Sam 3:10-14). In our discussion today, we shall see that there are the fundamental basis for effective communication from God to man, which includes our holy lifestyle.
STUDY GUIDE
1. Explain what verbal communication of God with humankind is, in the context of our text today and Exod 3:13-14.
2. Why was Eli unable to hear God’s call? Explain with 1Sam 2:27-30; 3:13-14 compare with Rom 1:28; 1Cor 2:14
3. What are the bases for hearing from God? 1Sam 2:11, 18; 3:1a; Psalm 24:3-4; Mk 1:35.
4. Is God still speaking to people in our generation? If ‘Yes’; explain from personal experience and if ‘No’; Why?
CONCLUSION
God is forever in the act of communicating to His people in a clear audible manner; however, we need to be very close to Him in prayer, meditation in His Word, and through righteous lifestyle to understand the voice of God, discernible from that of Satan.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: The more we move closer to God, the more we hear His voice.
MEMORY VERSE: 1Sam 3:10 “Now the LORD came and stood and called at other times, “Samuel! Samuel! And Samuel answered, ‘Speak, for Thy servant heareth.”

4th SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY JANUARY 30 2022
THEME: THE LORD GOD AND THE REIGN OF PEACE
SUB-THEME: Means of God’s Revelation to Mankind 4
TOPIC: Prophets
TEXTS: 1Kings 22:1-28
AIMS:
- to discuss the office of a prophet,
- to differentiate between God’s prophets, carnally minded God’s prophets, and false prophets
- to discuss the importance of obeying the prophets of God
INTRODUCTION
According to Exodus 4: 12, a prophet is God’s mouthpiece. In both the Old Testament and the New Testament, prophets of God delivered the word of God with authority. In our text today, we can see a clear difference between true Prophets of God and the false ones.
However, we find godly and carnal prophets of God in the Bible. How then can we differentiate between the two? Our study guide will beam searchlight to this and other related issues.
STUDY GUIDE
- From the study today, who is a prophet? Compare with 1Kings 22:7 with Hosea 12:10; Amos 3:7.
- Examine the prophetic messages in 1Kings 22:13-14 and differentiate between the prophets of God and carnally minded prophets.
- In the following passages, mention the distinctive features of the prophets of God. 2King 5:15-19; Jer 1: 6-8 and mention some reasons for obeying them.
- How is prophetic ministry compromised in our generation? Read 1Kings 13:19-22; 2Kings 5:20-25.
CONCLUSION
As there are prophets of God, so are carnally minded prophets, who are after a selfish gain by taking advantage of vulnerable people. Our closeness to God will enable us with discernment to know the godly and obey them as well as knowing the ungodly and refraining from them.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Prophets are God’s messenger, not the Messiah.
MEMORY VERSE: Hosea 12:10 “I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets”.

5TH SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY FEBRUARY 6 2022
THEME: THE LORD GOD AND THE REIGN OF PEACE
SUB-THEME: Means of God’s Revelation to Mankind 5
TOPIC: Jesus Christ
TEXTS: Heb. 1:1-3
AIMS:
- to show Jesus Christ as the final revelation of God to mankind and
- to expose the earthly reign of Jesus and His eternal reign in heaven.
INTRODUCTION
The phrase “at sundry times” (KJV) really means “in many portions” of the Old Testament Scriptures. This means that all revelations to be known were not given to only one prophet, but each received that which was given to him. Likewise, the phrase “in divers manners” (KJV) also means some of the prophets heard audible voice of God, some through Urim and Thummim, some through dreams, and some through visions.
The Old Testament revelations were fragmentary in substance, even though they were many and various in form. There were very multitude of prophets, yet they all prophesied only in part. However, in Christ, the revelation of God is full. All mysteries to be known of God and His purposes in humankind are united in Jesus.
STUDY GUIDE
- What do you understand by the statement, “Jesus: the final revelation of God to mankind”?
- Why do you think Jesus is superior to any other means of revelation? Matt 17:5; Acts 3: 22 – 24;
- Read Hebrews 1:2 again and discuss the three qualities found in Christ that were not found in any of the prophets in the Old Testament.
- Making the three qualities of Jesus Christ in Hebrews 1:2 the basis, how can you explain Jesus’ reign on earth and in heaven? John 14: 9 & 10; Pro. 8: 26 – 31; Psalm 110: 1 & 2; Phil 2:5-11.
CONCLUSION
Jesus’ superiority to all other means of God’s revelation to mankind stems from the fact that, He is the Son, and He is one with the Father; He is whom God has appointed heir of all things; because through Him God made the worlds. Therefore, He reigns over all in the physical and the spiritual, and He will reign with God in Heaven forever and ever.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: The final revelation of God is the perfect manifestation of God to humankind.
MEMORY VERSE: Heb 1:1-2 “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.”

THEME: THE LORD GOD AND THE REIGN OF PEACE
SUB-THEME: Christian’s Knowledge of God
TOPIC: The Lord God Almighty
Text: Exod. 15:1-11.
AIM: To help us understand the concept of the Almightiness of God and the Christians’ attitude in relating with Him in this light.
INTRODUCTION
Today marks the beginning of preparations for Lent (Septuagesima Sunday), and we shall be focusing on the topic, “The Lord God Almighty.” The Portrait of God as One who possesses absolute authority and power over all that exist in the universe is all over scripture. Through history, and across territories and generations, He has consistently exercised dominion, humbling extremely powerful sovereigns, while subjecting Satan and his evil hosts to eternal defeat and humiliation. This study will help us gain clearer understanding of His Person, sovereignty and everlasting reality.
STUDY GUIDE
- From the text today, identify and discuss the significant attributes of God’s Almightiness.
- From the text, briefly explain how God demonstrated and continues to demonstrate His absolute authority and power over the affairs of humankind and nature. Compare Josh 10:12-14; Dan. 4:30-34; Matt. 28:1-4.
- How do some people underrate the demonstration the power of God in our generation with reference to Exo 5:2; Acts 12:21-22.
- What should be our attitude as Christians if we are expecting the demonstration of God’s power in our generation Gen.17:1; Exo 14:13-14; Prov. 3:5-7; Rom.9:20
CONCLUSION
We should not doubt that God is willing to demonstrate His glory and power in the affairs of humankind for all to see (even unbelievers). It will be of great benefit to us if we learn to submit to and trust Him in all of this life’s battles. He is the Lord God Almighty!
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Acknowledging the greatness of God proves our total submission to Him.
MEMORY VERSE: Exodus 15:11, “Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders”

SEXAGESIMA SUNDAY FEBRUARY 20 2022
THEME: THE LORD GOD AND THE REIGN OF PEACE
SUB THEME: Christian’s Knowledge of God
TOPIC: God: The Beginning (Alpha) of all things
TEXTS: Isaiah 41:1-4
AIMS:
- to explain the concept of “the beginning (Alpha) of all things” and
- to expatiate on how God has demonstrated Himself as “the beginning (Alpha) of all things” and
INTRODUCTION
Verse 4 of our text today reveals God as the One that calls generations from the beginning. He can do this because He is the Beginning. He was present with the first of the generations and will still be there with the last of them. He is indeed the Ancient of Days. He is the eternal Lord of history and nations. No nation, in the final analysis; really has control over its future. God reveals through Isaiah, that the origin, positioning and destiny of nations are from Him. This He has displayed in Cyrus, through his conquests, and how he (Cyrus) was used to deliver Israel from the Babylonian captivity, carrying out God’s righteous plan on earth, though a heathen Emperor. We can also read Deut. 32: 8 and Acts 17: 26.
Acknowledging this great attribute of our God should call for His respect, honour, and adoration from us who serve Him.
STUDY GUIDE
- How do you understand the concept of God as “the beginning (Alpha) of all things” according to our text?” See also Isa 43:10; 44:6-7’ Rev 1:17
- From the following Bible texts, explain how God has demonstrated His being the “Beginning (Alpha) of all things”: Gen. 1:1-3; Isaiah 46:10; 2 Thes.2:13.
- Outline ways some Bible characters gave God prime place in their time, and how we could do the same in our day. Gen.4:3-4; 1Sam.23:2-5; Mark 1:35; 1 Cor.16:2.
- How can we accord God the first priority or prime place in the practice of the faith? Acts 1:2-3; Col.1:12, 16-18;
CONCLUSION
Thereis never a being preceding God. He is “the Beginning (Alpha) of all things.” He is the Determiner of history from the beginning. He deserves only the best and prime place in our lives. We cannot and should never do less in all our Christian life.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Giving God the second place is a great error.
MEMORY VERSE: Col 1:18 – “And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the Pre-eminence”.

QUINQUAGESIMA FEBRUARY 27 2022
THEME: THE LORD GOD AND THE REIGN OF PEACE
SUB-THEME: Christian’s Knowledge of God
TOPIC: God: The Present at all places and at all times – (Omnipresent)
TEXTS: Psalm 139:7-12
AIMS:
- to help participants understand what it means for God to be everywhere at the same time,
- to remind us that we cannot hide from God no matter how secretive we are, neither can we or flee his presence on the day of reckoning.
INTRODUCTION
As we welcome every Christian to the Quinquagesima Sunday, the last before Lent; may God grant us all the grace to continuously walk on His path in Jesus name. The concept of our Topic today: “God: The Present at all places and at all times” shows that the omnipresent nature of God makes Him to be everywhere at every time and is able to relate with and respond effectively to everyone in many different places at the same time. It also means, as you step out for a journey, He is with you, as you are going, He is with you and he is before you to your destination. The Psalmist, in utmost awe of this divine character, acknowledged that it was practically impossible for him or anyone else to escape God’s presence in any nook or cranny of the universe.
STUDY GUIDE
- Point out the verses that explains the phrase “the present at all places and at all times” from our text (Psalm 139:7-12). Is there any other being in the entire universe that shares this quality with the Lord? See Heb. 4:13
- Given the weight of the Psalmist’s expressions in Psa. 139:7-12, is it ever possible for anyone to hide from God? Discuss with relevant examples.
- With reference to Jonah 1:3-4, 14, 17; 2:1 and Acts 16:25-26 describe the omnipresent nature of God for all Christians in various situations.
- What consequences await those who continue to live and act as if God cannot see them doing the evil they do in the so-called secret places? Prov. 15:3; Rev.6:15-17.
CONCLUSION
The fact that God is always present everywhere and at all times should be a constant source of comfort for believers that wherever they go, they will find themselves in God’s protection. In the same vein, no wickedness can escape His judgment since they cannot be hidden from Him.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Only the fool thinks he can hide from God.
MEMORY VERSE: Heb. 4:13 – “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account”.
STUDY 10
1ST SUNDAY IN LENT MARCH 6 2022
THEME: THE LORD GOD AND THE REIGN OF PEACE
SUB-THEME: Christian’s Knowledge of God
TOPIC: God: The End of All Things – Omega
TEXTS: Isaiah 46: 3-13
AIMS:
- to explain the concept of Biblical Omega to Christians, and
- to understand God as the End of all things.
INTRODUCTION
Literarily, Omega is the last letter of the Greek alphabet, symbolizing the extreme or final part. Thus, when the Lord declares that He is the Omega, it means when all other things shall seize to exist, God continues to exist as God. In Isaiah 46:10, it is shown that He makes known the end from the beginning, from ancient times; what is still to come. Therefore, His purposes stand firm. They cannot be frustrated. He has power enough to secure the execution of his designs, and he will exert that power in order that all his plans may be accomplished.
Our study today sheds more light on this assertion that our God is already at the end of whatever we are or passing through, especially as His children. How can we then enjoy the best tomorrow as Christians?
STUDY GUIDE
- Explain Omega in the literary and Biblical concept of Isaiah 46:10.
- Discuss the claim of God as “Omega” in Rev. 1:8 in relation to Isa. 46: 10; Rev. 1:8; 22:12 &13.
- From the scriptures and happenings around us, discuss events/ occurrences that prove that God is indeed the Omega. Gen 45:6-8; Job 42:12; Matt 28:19-20.
- From today’s study and in the context of Job 19:25-27 and John 3:16-17 (Read them) what is the eternal hope of all Christians?
CONCLUSION
There is a common quote that “what God cannot do does not exist.” Simply put, every matter ends with God because He is actually the End Himself. As we commence the Lenten season, let us approach Him with a sober heart, irrespective of our challenges. We will find the best end in Him.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Every matter ends with Him Who is The End.
MEMORY VERSE: Isaiah 46:9-10 “Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me; declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, my counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure.”

2ND SUNDAY IN LENT MARCH 13 2022
THEME: THE LORD GOD AND THE REIGN OF PEACE
SUB-THEME: Christian’s Knowledge of God
TOPIC: God as Life
TEXTS: John 1:1-4.
AIM:
- to discuss God as the life in mankind,
- to explain how best we can enjoy our life as Christians on earth and in heaven
INTRODUCTION
The Lord God is not just the giver of life to humankind but He is the life in every soul on earth. Our texts today remind us of the breathing of life into the first man created by God, thereby making him a living soul. According to John 17:3, knowing God is the meaning of life because He is the “Author of life.” The meaning of life is not based on things we see in the world “for life is more than food, and the body more than clothing” (Luke 12:23). Is it possible for one to be physically alive but spiritually dead? How? This and others shall be discussed in our guide today.
STUDY GUIDE
- From our Text(John 1:1, 4), how can you explain the fact that God is Life? Ref: Deut. 32:39; John 11:25
- According to Josh 1:8; John 17:3, Pro. 8:36, how best can we enjoy the life of God?
- Is it possible for one to be physically alive but spiritually dead? If yes, how? Eph. 2:1-3; Rev 3:1.
- How can the spiritually dead person regain life? Rom. 8:10-11; Gal 2:20; 5:24
CONCLUSION
The author of life is the only one who can give and take life from anyone. From Him we come and to Him we shall all return. Therefore, our knowledge and relationship with Him here on earth will dictate our eternal life and relationship with Him in heaven.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Every enemy of God is dead while living.
MEMORY VERSE: John 17:3 “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent”.

THEME: THE LORD GOD AND THE REIGN OF PEACE
SUB-THEME: Christian’s Knowledge of God
TOPIC: God as a creator I: The Creator of Heaven and Earth
TEXT: Isaiah 45:5-9
AIM: To help participants acknowledge God as the ultimate Creator and Preserver of the whole universe.
INTRODUCTION
To think that no one created the world is as good as thinking that no one manufactured the wristwatches in our hands. According to Marylyn Baker, a blind singer, “It is not chance that brought things into being; chance could not have made it all so very well.” Genesis chapter one gives us a detailed account of how God created everything. Seeing God as the Creator is expected to create a sense of awe and reverence for Him in our hearts.
STUDY GUIDE
- From our text today (Isaiah 45:5-9), how would you convince a doubter that God indeed is the Creator of the whole universe? Compare with John 1:1-4.
- Read the first paragraphs of the Apostles Creed and the Nicene Creed and highlight evidence for God as the creator.
- Discuss how the knowledge of God as Creator can boost our faith in challenging situations, (e.g., coping with a bad medical report)? Cf. Psalm 50:15; Isaiah 41:18; 43:19; Acts 16:25-26.
CONCLUSION
God is the ultimate Creator and besides Him, there is none else. He is not only the Creator but also the Preserver of the whole universe. Unfortunately, today, many are worshipping the created things rather than the Creator Himself. Let us draw ourselves back to the Creator and it shall be well with us.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: If not God, then who is the uncreated Creator? Please think over this

THEME: THE LORD GOD AND THE REIGN OF PEACE
SUB-THEME: Christian’s Knowledge of God
TOPIC: God as Creator 2: Man’s Creation in God’s Image
TEXTS: Gen. 1:26-27
AIMS:
- to understand what the image of God is, and what it means to be created as such.
- to realize what God expects from us as a people created in His image and
- to outline the steps to take for the image of God to be fully restored in us.
INTRODUCTION
The image of God is a foundational concept for understanding our significance and purpose. Understanding how we are made in God’s image helps us to see the basis for the dignity and purpose of our life and work. Genesis 1:26-27 recorded that human beings were made in the image of God- both male and female. As Christians, we have obligations to justify this great opportunity (to be created in God’s ImageEph. 5:1-11).
As we wish all our Mothers and women blissful Mothering Sunday, may they live long to reap the reward of faithful image of God on earth in Jesus’ name.
STUDY GUIDE
- In Gen 1:27-28; what does man’s creation in the image of God mean, and what is this image of God like? See also Eph 5:1-2; Phil 2:14-15.
- Humans, male and female, are created in the image of God. In line with Tit 2:1-10, how are our mothers to exhibit the image of God in them?
- Outline some of the practical steps we need to take for the image of God to be fully restored in the humankind from the following Bible texts: Ps.95:7–8; Acts 3:19; 1 John 4:7-8.
- What must we do to escape being defiled as a people created in God’s image? Jos.1:8; Dan.1:8; Eph 5:11
CONCLUSION
Our worth as human beings is connected to our Creator. If God is of great and inestimable worth, then human beings made in his image must be of great value, too. It is expected of us to consciously exhibit this nature of God, after we are born again.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Righteous lifestyle; the only guarantee for eternal Image of God.

TOPIC: God of History
TEXT: Josh.24:1-15
AIMS:
- to exposit the reasons God keeps historical records and then
- to challenge us to amend our ways so we can escape on the day of reckoning.
INTRODUCTION
History is the study and interpretation of past events, particularly as it concerns human affairs. That God is a historical Being who does not forget is clear in scripture. He has accurate record of events and happenings as they unfold. He called certain people to put in record events that became the history of the Israelites. Hence, we have books like the first and second Kings and Chronicles. Through Joshua, He reminded Israel of how they came to be where they were (Jos.24:1-15).
STUDY GUIDE
- How does our key text (Jos 24:1-15) help in understanding God as the God of History? See also Matt. 25:34-45;
- Why does God keep historical records?Exo.17:14; Rom 15:4; Eccle 12:14; Rev. 20:11-13.
- What should be our response to this God who keeps accurate historical account? Josh 24:13-14; Psalm 95:7-11; Eph. 5:15.
- What is the value of Record keeping and how may we improve on our record keeping habit in the Church today? Read Luk 1:1-4.
CONCLUSION
As a Church of God, we must rise up to the challenge of keeping accurate historical records because our God is a God of history. No one should be ignorant of the fact that eventually, God will reveal all our actions, whether good or evil. What shall be the record of my earthly sojourn when revealed; will it be good or bad?
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: You can’t escape the records; either in the good or bad book.
MEMORY VERSE: Rev 20:12 – “And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God,and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books”.

This prophecy was fulfilled when Jesus Christ rode into Jerusalem on what we traditionally call “Palm Sunday.” The event is recorded in all four Gospels (Matt 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:29-44; and John 12:12-19). This is the only public demonstration Jesus allowed during His ministry, and He did it to fulfill this Scripture. When Zechariah made this prophecy about Jesus, Alexander the Great, who was the Emperor came to Jerusalem, and his arrival brought fear to people, but the Jews were commanded to rejoice and shout because their king had come. In contrast, Jesus’ purpose in coming was to bring salvation to those who would trust Him. How different from Alexander!Alexander rode a mighty horse and proudly led a great army, but Jesus rode a lowly donkey and came in humility. The people who welcomed Him were common peasants and children, who laid palm branches and garments before Him on the road. The great people of Jerusalem did not welcome Him. Jesus could have brought judgment, but instead He brought grace and forgiveness (John 3:17), in humility.
Moreover, Jesus demonstrated his Kingly and Priestly authority in the Temple by overthrowing the oppressive tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of extortionist dove sellers and thereafter healed the sick.
STUDY GUIDE
- From our text, what is the significance of horse and ass in human history and how can you justify the humility of Jesus riding on the latter?
- With reference to Luk 4:18 and Matt 21:12-14;justify the actions of Jesus in the Jerusalem Temple as the saviour of the World.
- How can you liken the actions of the moneychangers and dove sellers with some of what goes on in certaincontemporary Churches that preach only “prosperity” messages?
- While the indigents and children were shouting Hosanna (meaning save us now) to Jesus, the chief priests and scribes were displeased. How can you relate this with the relationship between contemporary rulers and their citizens’? Who can save us from tyrannical rules?
CONCLUSION
The eternal victory of Jesus Christ as saviour of the World was demonstrated on the day He rode on an ass to Jerusalem. We should always follow this earthly example as leaders in our various callings and enterprises to work for the joy and deliverance of the people we are called to govern.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Palm Sunday is meaningless if self is enthroned in our lives.
MEMORY VERSE: Zechariah 9:9 “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass”.

EASTER DAY APRIL 17 2022
THEME: THE LORD GOD AND THE REIGN OF PEACE
SUB-THEME: The Victory of Christ 2
TOPIC: The Victorious King of kings
TEXTS: Matt 28:1-8
AIMS:
- to teach the Christian concepts of Easter as related to Resurrection,
- identify proofs of Christ’s Resurrection and
- to expound the benefits of the resurrection of Christ to Christendom.
INTRODUCTION
Easter is the celebration of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from death to Life. It is the celebration of the Light of lights; the King of kings and the Lord of lords. While Easter means the celebration of Christ’s resurrection, Resurrection means the rising of Jesus Christ from the dead after confirmation of His death and his burial for three days. Resurrection is quite different from resuscitation, with the significance of Jesus Christ’s triumph over death. Though sceptics may doubt it, the evidences are simply overwhelming and cannot be refuted. It was an event that demonstrated the greatness of God’s power. In this study, we shall examine the whole concept and its benefit to Christians.
STUDY GUIDE
- From the context of our introduction and text today, what is resurrection, and how is it different from being raised from the dead, as was the case with Lazarus? John 11:43-44; 20:11-19.
- From the concept of today’s study, differentiate between Easter and Resurrection.
- From the following Scriptures what are the evidences that Christ actually rose from the dead? Matt. 27:62-66; 28:2-6, 11-15; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Corinth 15:3-8.
- Outline the benefits of the resurrection of Christ. (1Cor.15:12-22, 55-57); Luke 24:45-47.
CONCLUSION
God’s power was demonstrated by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. It is different from resuscitation. It is the eternal victory of Jesus Christ over powers of darkness employing our sinful situation to afflict us. It is victory over eternal death, and Hades. In addition, it is the assurance of the eternal victory of all Christians at the end of the ages.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Resurrection: the guarantee for eternal Life.
MEMORY VERSE: 1Cor 15:55-57 “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory. The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ”.

1ST SUNDAY AFTER EASTER APRIL 24 2022
THEME: THE LORD GOD AND THE REIGN OF PEACE
SUB-THEME: Christians’ Knowledge of God
TOPIC: The Benevolent God
TEXTS: Exod. 34:5-8
AIMS:
- to help us gain a balanced view of God’s benevolence
- to outline how God has demonstrated His benevolence to mankind and
- to help stir up a desire in us to demonstrate Christian benevolence
INTRODUCTION
The benevolence of God means; God is infinitely good. There is no evil in Him. From the scriptures, we see God clearly as a benevolent Father who is merciful, gracious, good and caring. However, He has also demonstrated His severity in punishing sin. His ultimate benevolence was manifested in the death of His only Son, Christ, so that humankind can be saved – an uncommon gesture He demonstrated even while we were yet sinners! This study should quicken us to a more benevolent lifestyle like our Father.
STUDY GUIDE
- Compare our textabove with Psalm 65:9-13; Matt 5:45, and briefly explain what benevolence of God is, also using practical personal experience. What is the climax of God’s benevolence? Read John 3:16.
- Despite His benevolence, how has God shown His severity in punishing sin? Gen.4:9-15; Acts 5:1-11.
- Relating Christian experiencewith 1Kings 13:26 and Isaiah 59:1-2, why do you think the benevolent God allows His people to suffer.
- State and discuss some of the ways Christians can emulate the benevolent nature of God. Matt 5:44-48; Rom.12:17, 20-21.
CONCLUSION
Although God is infinitely good (benevolent), He does not condone sinful living. He allows the consequences of our sinful actions to take its course, until there is repentance. He calls on all who are called by His name to follow His example. Will you?
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Faith without benevolence is equal to hypocrisy.
MEMORY VERSE: Matt.5:45 – “That you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust”.

2ND SUNDAY AFTER EASTER MAY 1 2022
THEME: THE LORD GOD AND THE REIGN OF PEACE.
SUB-THEME: Earthly Leaders 1
TOPIC: God Ordains Earthly Rulers
TEXT: Romans 13:1-7
AIMS:
- to understand that God ordains all rulers to serve His purposes and
- to discuss how Christians can show good examples in their relationship with their rulers to the advancement of God’s kingdom.
INTRODUCTION
When we say God ordains earthly rulers; we mean He appoints, calls, elects or sets apart people who are in position of authority. This is because a man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven (John 3:27) and …there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God (Romans 13:1). In our text, Paul vividly explains that we must respect governing authorities because they are ordained by God. People in authority are God’s representatives to establish His rule, and to fulfil His purposes here on earth (1Sam. 16:1, 13). We are to obey their authorities as long as the authorities are not against biblical injunctions.
STUDY GUIDE
- Critically examine the purpose and reason behind God setting earthly rulers and leaders apart. Exo 3:7-10;2King 9:4-10; Rom 13:3-4.
- What is the primary duty of Christians to their rulers? Rom 13:1; 1Tim. 2:1-3 and why? (1Tim. 2:2b-4)
- Who is the right Judge of rulers if they failed? 1Kings 14:7-11; Acts 12:21-23.
- What is expected of every Christian when the authorities of an earthly ruler clashes with God’s will and authority? Dan. 3:16-18; Matt. 5:16; Acts 5:29.
CONCLUSION
It is an undisputable fact that no earthly ruler or leader can ascend the position of power if God had not ordered it. Christians are light and salt of the world, therefore, we must be models in leadership and in followership so as to establish the kingdom of God on earth since the judgment of every ruler who abuses power is in God’s hand not in our hands.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Your relationship with God determines your obedience to earthly rulers or leaders.
Memory Verse: Rom. 13:1 “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God”.
