Ancient and Modern (Anglican Hymns) A&M 401- 450
Hymns Ancient and Modern is a compilation of Anglican English Hymn. It is known as Hymns Ancient and Modern Revised aka A&M. Ancient and Modern (Anglican Hymns) A&M 401- 450.
Ancient and modern hymns are 636 hymns and still counting. So, for the sake of convenience and easy navigation, we split it into sections (in 50s).
The Igbo version is known as Ekpere na Abu. We have also compiled Abu Anglican Igbo 1 to 400. See them here:

Hymn A&M 401 We pray thee, heavenly Father
1. We pray thee, heavenly Father,
to hear us in thy love,
and pour upon thy children
the unction from above;
that so in love abiding,
from all defilement free,
we may in pureness offer
our Eucharist to thee.
2. Be thou our Guide and Helper,
O Jesus Christ, we pray;
so may we well approach thee,
if thou wilt be the Way:
thou, very Truth, hast promised
to help us in our strife,
food of the weary pilgrim,
eternal Source of life.
3. And thou, Creator Spirit,
look on us, we are thine;
renew us in thy graces,
upon our darkness shine;
that, with thy benediction,
upon our souls outpoured,
we may receive in gladness
the Body of the Lord.
4. O Trinity of Persons!
O Unity most high!
On thee alone relying
thy servants would draw nigh;
unworthy in our weakness,
on thee our hope is stayed,
and blest by thy forgiveness
we will not be afraid.

didst pray
1. O thou, who at thy Eucharist
didst pray
that all thy Church might be for
ever one,
grant us at every Eucharist to say
with longing heart and soul, “thy
will be done.”
O may we all one Bread, one Body be,
through this blest Sacrament of unity.
2. For all thy Church, O Lord, we
intercede;
make thou our sad divisions soon to cease;
draw us the nearer each to each, we plead,
by drawing all to thee, O Prince of Peace;

back to the faith which saints believed

Lift on our dark the Splendours of

Except we eat and drink indeed of

yet all is naught when all is done,

stood a lowly cattle shed,
where a mother laid her baby
in a manger for his bed:
Mary was that mother mild,
Jesus Christ her little child.
2. He came down to earth from heaven,
who is God and Lord of all,
and his shelter was a stable,
and his cradle was a stall;
with the poor and mean and lowly,
lived on earth our Saviours holy.
3. And, through all his wondrous childhood,
he would honour and obey,
love and watch the lowly maiden
in whose gentle arms he lay:
Christian children all must be
mild, obedient, good as he.
4. For he is our childhood’s pattern,
day by day like us he grew;
he was little, weak and helpless,
tears and smiles like us he knew.
and he feeleth for our sadness,
and he shareth in our gladness.

through his own redeeming love;

children of the Lord.
2. Christ is kind and gentle,

3. There’s a wicked spirit

and he tries to tempt you
to all harm and ill.

though ’tis hard for you
to resist the evil,
and the good to do.
5. For ye promised truly,
in your infant days,
to renounce him wholly,
and forsake his ways.
6. Ye are new-born Christians,
ye must learn to fight
with the bad within you,
and to do the right.
7. Christ is your own Master,
he is good and true,
and his little children
must be holy too.

1. We have a King who came to earth
to win the world for God,
and we, the children of the King,
must follow where he trod.
2. The banner that our King unfurled
was love to every man,
so we must try to show that love
in all the ways we can.
3. The enemies he came to fight
are selfishness and sin:
then who would be a traitor now
and let his foemen in?
4. He bids us keep our bodies pure,
for ’tis the pure and clean
can see the glory of the King,
and tell what they have seen.
5. We are a little company,
but we are pledged to bring
pure holy lives, kind joyful hearts,
and bring them to the King.

1. It is a thing most wonderful,
almost too wonderful to be,
that God’s own Son should come
from heaven,
and die to save a child like me.
2. And yet I know that it is true:
he chose a poor and humble lot,
and wept, and toiled, and mourned, and
died,
for love of those who loved him not.
3. I cannot tell how he would love
a child so weak and full of sin;
his love must be most wonderful,
if he could die my love to win.
4. I sometimes think about the cross,
and shut my eyes, and try to see
the cruel nails and crown of thorns
and Jesus crucified for me.
5. But even could I see him die,
I could but see a little part
of that great love, which, like a fire,
is always burning in his heart.
6. It is most wonderful to know
his love for me so free and sure;
but ’tis more wonderful to see
my love for him so faint and poor.
7. And yet I want to love thee, Lord;
O light the flame within my heart,
and I will love thee more and more,
until I see thee as thou art.

his love for children still,
though now as King he reigneth
on Zion’s heavenly hill,
we’ll flock around his banner
who sits upon his throne,

Where Jesus died a bitter death
To save mankind from ill.

But could not calm their fears.
4. Came Mary to that garden
And sobbed with heart forlorn:
She thought she heard the gardener
Ask
‘Whom seekest thou this morn?
5. She heard her own name spoken,
And then she lost her care:
All in his strength and beauty
The risen Lord stood fair!
