Sample of Christmas Carol and 9 Lessons Program for the Church/School

This year is gradually winding to an end and the Christmas season is here again. The first week of December is always the date for the Christmas Nine Lessons and Carol in our mission school. In our church too, it is usually marked in one of the Sundays in December before Christmas. I am also aware that Christmas 9 lessons and Carol are held or celebrated by people of different walks of life. I wish to share the Sample of Christmas Carol and 9 Lessons Program for the school and also for the Church for those who will plan to hold theirs any time. PROCESSIONAL HYMN: CHRISTIANS, AWAKE! SALUTE THE HAPPY MORN.

  1. CHRISTIANS, awake! Salute the happy morn,

Whereon the Saviour of the world was born

Rise to adore the mystery of love

Which hosts of angels chanted from above:

With them the joyful tidings first begun.

Of God incarnate and the Virgin’s Son.

  1. Then to the watchful Shepherds it was told.

Who heard the angelic herald’s voice ‘Behold,

I bring good tidings of a Saviour’s birth

To you and all the nations upon earth:

This day hath God fulfilled his promised word,

This day is born a Saviour, Christ the Lord’.

  1. He spake; and straightway the celestial choir

In hymns of joy, unknown before, conspire;

The praises of redeeming love they sang.

And leaven’s whole orb with Alleluias rang;

God’s highest glory was their anthem still,

Peace upon earth, and unto men good will.

  1. To Bethlehem straight the enlightened shepherds run,

To see the wonder God had wrought for man,

And found, with Joseph and the blessed maid,

Her Son, the Saviour, in a manger laid;

Then to their flocks, still praising God, return,

And their glad hearts with holy rapture burn.

  1. O may we keep and ponder in our mind

God’s wondrous love in saving lost mankind;

Trace we the Bube, who hath retrieved our loss,

From his poor manger to his bitter cross;

Tread in his steps, assisted by his grace,

Till man’s first heavenly state again takes place.

  1. Then may we hope, the angelic hosts among,

To sing, redeemed, a glad triumphal song:

He that was born upon this joyful day

Around us all his glory shall display;

Saved by his love, incessant we shall sing

Eternal praise to heavens’ almighty king.

BIDDING PRAYER (ALL STANDING)

In the name of Christ and His church, I bid you welcome to All Soul’s Anglican Church today. We have come together as the family of God in our Father’s presence to prepare for the 2022  Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. In this service, we received the story and message of the birth of Christ and to offer to God our thanksgiving.

BUT FIRST LET US PRAY

Let us pray for the needs of the whole, for peace on earth and goodwill among the entire people; for unity and brotherhood within the church. Let all Christian people, that by this festival, they may be renewed to fulfill Christ work in the world, for the world which is already Christ that who bears responsibility for its future, in politics, in industry, in commerce, in education, and in mass media, maybe inspired by the message of Christmas to work together for the establishment of justice, freedom and peace everywhere.

Let us pray for the needy and for all social needs, the sick, the anxious, the unemployed, the lonely, the fearful, and the bereaved.

We commend all whom we loved asked for our prayer to the unfailing love of our Heavenly Father and say together as Christ Himself to teach us.

The Lord’s Payer

Our father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done earth as it is heaven. Give us today, our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: for thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever Amen.

May the humility of the shepherd, the faith of the wise men, the joy of the angels, and the peace of the child, Christ on God’s gift to us and all men this Christmas and always. Amen.

All the praise to you, Almighty Good and Heavenly king, who sent your Son into the world to take our nature upon Him and be born of pure Virgin Mary. Grant that we who have been born again and made your children by children by adoption and by your grace, may continually dwell in Him and reign on earth as He reigns in heaven with you and the Holy Spirit not now and forever. Amen.

O LITTLE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM -CHOIR & CONGREGATION

  1. O little town of Bethlehem,

How still we see thee lie!

Above thy deep and dreamless sleep

The silent stars go by;

Yet in thy dark streets shineth

The hopes and fears of all the years

Are met in thee to-night.

  1. O morning stars, together

Proclaim the holy birth,

And praises sing to God the King,

And peace to men on earth.

For Christ is born of Mary;

And, gathered all above,

While mortals sleep, the angles keep

Their watch of wondering love.

  1. How silently, how silently,

The wondrous gift is given!

So, God imparts to human hearts

The blessings of his heaven.

No ear may haer his coming;

But in this world of sin,

Where meek souls will receive him still

The dear Christ enters in.

  1. O holy Child of Bethlehem,

Descend to us we pray;

Cast out our sin, and enter in;

Be born in us to-day.

We hear the Christmas angels

The great glad tidings tell;

O come to us, abide with us,

Our Lord Emmanuel.
