Walk in the Spirit / The Fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:16) – BIBLE STUDY
It is the beginning of the year and the women in our church hold retreats for their annual rededication service. In this year’s retreat, we dwelled on the theme “Walk in the Spirit (Gal. 5:16)”. The Bible study was split into 2. The first part, was on the theme, “Walk in the Spirit” and the second study was on “The Fruit of the Spirit. Walk in the Spirit / The Fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:16) – BIBLE STUDY.
Apart from what has been said in the studies, there is one point I wish to state here before. In living our life as Christian, there are two realms: The realm of the Flesh and the realm of the Spirit. It is either we are walking and working in one or the other. There is nothing like being in between.
The realm or the path we choose to walk is not also hidden. It is made manifest by the fruit we bear therein. Another point to note is that Paul was given an injunction or command to the Christians in the Galatians. It is what every true child of God must do in order to inherit the kingdom of God or miss out.

Bible study 1 – Topic: Walk in the Spirit
Text: Gal. 5: 16 – 21, 2 Cor. 3:17, John 4:24.
Aims:
- To teach what it means to walk in the Spirit.
- To understand the consequences of not walking in the Spirit.
Text: Gal. 5: 16 – 21
16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[a] you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Walk in the Spirit / The Fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:16) – BIBLE STUDY
INTRODUCTION
In our Bible passage, in the letter of Paul to the Galatians, Paul admonishes the Church to walk in the Spirit. If Paul had just made this statement and ended just like that, it would be followed a question; ‘why’? Why should I walk in the Spirit? According to Gal. 5: 16b, he didn’t end just like that, he added, “so , we will not gratify the desires of the Flesh”. Flesh is always at work in everyone and what it wants us to do are contradicting the Spirit of God in us. There are always two routes in our Christian race: One is the route where flesh leads and the other where the Spirit leads. As a true child of God, we are called today to walk in the Spirit. Walk in the Spirit means following the path or the route of the Spirit.
To Walk means abide, follow, stick by, align, etc. We know this path by the fruit it brings forth. May God help us to live and walk in the Spirit.

- To enumerate the fruit of the Spirit and how they manifest in our daily living.
INTRODUCTION:
In our first Bible Study above, we discussed “Walk in the Spirit”. We were able to explain what it means to walk in the Spirit.
A major truth paramount in the study is that when we are not walking in the Spirit, we are walking in the Flesh. When we walk in the Flesh, we are gratifying the works of the Flesh. These works Flesh are present in the Fruit we bear. These fruit are from Satan. We saw them in Gal. 5: 19 – 21.
In this study, we shall dwell on what will happen to our lives when we walk in the Spirit. Of course, we are going to bear the fruit of the Spirit as we saw in our today’s text. We pray for listening ears and obedient hearts to always hear and obey the direction God wants us to follow as we serve Him.
