APC Rivers State Chapter Suspends Chairman Over Anti-party Activities. The All Progressives Congress (APC) Rivers State Executive Committee suspended the party’s chairman, Emeka Beke, and legal adviser, Iheanyichukwu Azubuike, over alleged financial misconduct and anti-party activities. The SEC dissociated itself from comments allegedly made by former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who claimed that Bola Tinubu singlehandedly nominated Prof Mahmood Yakubu as the Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman.
Chike Eyinda, the special leader of the party’s executive committee in the state, led members to a media briefing in Port Harcourt where he explained that Beke and Amaechi had affected the party negatively for the past few years, resulting in a poor performance in the recent general election. As a result, Beke and Azubuike were suspended indefinitely, pending the outcome of an independent committee of inquiry as may be set up by the party. The deputy chairman, Omiete Eferebo, would serve as the acting chairman until the outcome of the investigation.

Eyinda accused Amaechi, Beke, and Azubuike of holding the Rivers APC on her kneels since 2021, adding that they had been responsible for the mass exodus of members of the party as well as the party’s failures in the last general election. Amaechi had called the leadership of the party to a meeting a week before the presidential election, directing all APC members in the state to work for the PDP in the general election. Eyinda alleged that this instruction backfired on the APC during the March 18 governorship election, as no contrary instruction was given to the party’s supporters in the various local government areas to counter the earlier instruction. Eyinda also mentioned that Beke disbursed all funds released for the 2023 elections without the consent and approval of any member of the executive working committee as prescribed by the party’s constitution. Eyinda called on the National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, to set up an independent panel of inquiry to investigate the activities of the suspended leaders with a view to finding a lasting solution to the problems of the party in the state.
