Edo PDP Sweeps 3 House of Assembly Seats In The Just Concluded Supplementary Election. In Edo State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged victorious in three remaining House of Assembly seats, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) claimed the remaining House of Representatives seat in the supplementary poll held on Saturday. PDP’s Destiny Enabulele, Natasha Osawaru, and Uyi Omosigho were declared winners in Ovia Southwest, Egor, and Oredo East constituencies respectively. Meanwhile, APC’s Chief Billy Osawaru emerged victorious in the supplementary election in the Orhionmwon/Uhunmwonde federal constituency of Edo State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier declared the March 18 House of Assembly elections inconclusive in Ovia Southwest, Egor, and Oredo East constituencies. In the elections conducted on March 18, PDP won 12 of the 24 seats in the state’s House of Assembly, while APC’s candidates emerged victorious in eight constituencies, and the Labour Party (LP) won one seat. This brings the total number of House of Assembly seats won by the PDP in the state to 15.

In the House of Representatives election, APC won five seats, LP had two seats, and PDP won one seat. APC also won two senatorial seats, while LP had one senatorial seat. However, the Edo chairman of LP, Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi, called on INEC to cancel Saturday’s House of Assembly supplementary election in Oredo East and Egor constituencies, describing the poll as a charade. Ogbaloi alleged that LP members were dehumanized and molested while trying to gain access to their polling units, with one of them knocked down by a vehicle at Ward 12, Agbado Primary School polling unit in Benin while trying to escape from his assailants.
He further stated that fierce-looking young men were stationed in all the polling units, where the supplementary election was held, denying supporters of LP access to the polling area. LP officials were allegedly beaten and lying in the hospital, and only officials of the PDP government in Edo State were allowed into the polling units. Persons who attempted to vote for LP were beaten up, their clothes torn, and pushed out. Ogbaloi called for another supplementary election in Oredo East and Egor constituencies.

It remains to be seen how the election will impact the political landscape in Edo State and the country at large.
