Divine mandate is a command given to us Christians by our Lord Jesus Christ. Matthew 28 verse 18- 20. And it says then Jesus came to them and said” All authority in heaven and on Earth has been given to me . Therefore go and make disciple of all nation, baptizing them in the name of the father and of the sin and of the holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surly I am with you always, to very end of the age.

Sermon on Divine mandate Matthew 28: 18- 20

3 things to consider in this sermon,

  • Mandate
  • Mandator
  • Mandatee

Mandate

Mandate means an official or authoritative command. It is a message with power. It is a commission given to us by Almighty God. It is a must do message. Our Lord Jesus Christ made it a mandatory to his fellower to go ye and make disciple of all nation.

Mandator

The mandator, our Lord Jesus Christ is the mandator. Mandator is the person given the command, mandate or instructions. He has instructed or rather commanded us to therefore go and make disciple in all the nation, baptizing them into the name of Father and of the son and of the holy spirit, and to teach these new disciple to obey all the commands I have given you and be sure of this that I am with you always, even to the end of the world,  Matthew 28 vs 19-20.

Mandatee.

Who are The recipient of the mandate? The recipient of the mandate are called mandatee. We are the mandatee. Every believer is a mandatee. Those that have relationship with God the mandator. They are worshipers of God. Those who are at the place our Lord Jesus Christ want s them to be. They are those who meant the condition of the mandator Luke 9 vs 23 says then he said to them all, Who ever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross DAILY and follow me.

Mark 3 vs 13 – 18 Jesus went up on a mountain side and called to him those he wanted, and they came him . He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demon. These are the twelve he appointed: Simon, to whom he gave the babe Peter; James son of Zebedee and his brother John to whom he gave the Boabeeges, which means sons of thunder, Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Mathew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thadaeus, Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. . They are also those who obey the word of God.

Mandatee are not perfect people. They are those with one wickedness or the other, Mark 9 vs 19,  And Judas Iscariot who betrayed him ( Jesus Christ) Mathew said they worship and doubted. We are meant to preach the gospel starting with ourselves, family then church and other places. May God help us to fulfill this mandate. Sermon on Divine mandate Matthew 28 verse 18- 20

Remember we say a mandate bus a commission, an authoritative command. There are some condition to receive this mandate. Some of these conditions are

1. Following him (Jesus Christ)

2. Being with him

Following Jesus Christ require every time we have, time, money, resources. We remembered what happened during our Lord Jesus cruxification, Jesus told Peter he will deny him, and because he Peter followed from a far he denied Jesus. So we need to follow closely so as to meet up with Divine mandate requirements.

Being with him (Jesus Christ). Being with Jesus is staying close just like Mary in the Luke 10 vs 38-40 and it says As Jesus and hi disciple continue on their way to Jerusalem they came to a village where a woman named Martha welcome them into her home.

Her sister Mary SAT ON THE floor LISTENING to Jesus as he talked m Martha was the Jittering type, a was worrying over the big dinner she was  preparing, she came to Jesus and said to him” sir doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me”. Here we saw that Jesus values some one being with him than busy with other things. It is only those who are with him that he MAKES.  I when we are closer he makes us qualify, equip for the Divine mandate, assignment.

How do we be with Jesus?

1. By engaging him his word

2. By engaging him in prayer

Engaging him in his word 2 Corinthians 3 vs 18. And it says, And we all who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory are being transformed into his image with ever – increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the spirit.

When we are  studying, engaging him in his word, we are being transformed into his image with ever- increasing glory. And when we are engaging him in his word, we will have power to dominate,p reach, being Christ centered. He makes the Divine mandate he committed unto us to be easier for us. Self is dies in our lives when we engage him. What bother others do not bother us at all when we engage him.

According to Mark 8 vs 38, which says And anyone who is ashamed of me and my message in this days of unbelief and sin , I, the Messiah will be ashamed of him when I return in the glory of my father, with the holy angle, from here engaging God makes him to be proud of us, enables us to stand out boldly, not being ashamed of the Gospel.

Sermon on Divine mandate Matthew 28 verse 18- 20

Engaging him in prayer. Prayers is a means through which we commune with our maker. It is a way by which we pray out what does not bring Glory to God .Prayers  makes us to be bold and stand out for Christ Jesus. Not being ashamed at all.

Further more, from our  anchor  text, that is, Mathew 28 vs 19 -20 and it says therefore go and make disciple of all nation, baptizing them in the name of Father and of the son and of the holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Genesis 1 vs 27-28 which says so God created mankind in his own image. We in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God  bless them and said to them Be are fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.

Sermon on Divine mandate Matthew 28 verse 18- 20

We are going to consider 3 phrase from these passages of the holy bible.

1. Go ye therefore

2. Make disciple

3 . Be fruitful and multiple.

Go ye therefore, this means going in response to the mandator. It is equally an acknowledgement of the authority of the mandator.

Make disciple this is the aim of the going.  We are not going to preach church, show clothes, but to make disciple.  Making takes a lot time, it takes mind, planning, resources. It demand a whole of some body because you can not make a person you did not love. Even when they/ the person is still stubborn or not yielding, you still have to love unconditional so as to win them to Christ. Making disciple involves not given up on till the person yields.

Be fruitful and multiple. To be fruitful is to have the capacity to reproduce. You can not multiple until you are fruitful. And you can only reproduce your kind. The scope of this mandate is the world, all nation and where you are is the starting point to witness. In Divine mandate work, we are to go and meet the unsaved, we are not going to wait for them to come.

Because the Bible said that we should go therefore and make disciple of all nation… teaching them what to do, how to do them and exercising patience at the course of doing the work. And as Christians, we can not make disciple when we are avoiding them. Join your village meeting and other gathering and intentionally making disciple from there. Live at peace with everyone at  times so that you can preach, win them to Christ Jesus.

Be a giver, through given out valuable things and at the process teach, make disciple. When we thirsty and desire to save a soul, the mandator our Lord Jesus Christ will help you and make your going effective. A mandatee should be a person of faith. He should believe that I the disciple that he is making will yields or repent.

Sermon on Divine mandate Matthew 28 verse 18- 20 (Summary)

Habakkuk 2 vs 4. And it says see, the enemy is puffed up; his desires are not upright- but the righteous person will live by his faithfulness. Faith is not  just confession. Faith is a law. It works any where it is rightly apply. So as we apply it that is believe that the people we minister to will encounter God. In conclusion since Divine mandate requires  a lot from us we need to cast all our anxiety on him  because he cares for us. 1 Peter 5 vs 7.
