Speaking on this, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of elections for Rivers State, AIG Olukayode Egbetokun, has stated that the police have deployed massively and are ready for the forthcoming elections.

AIG Egbetokun, who also serves as the AIG Zone 7 Abuja, recently addressed reporters in Port Harcourt and reiterated that the three-week gap between the Presidential and Governorship elections has provided the police with ample time to prepare effectively. He warned potential criminal elements to steer clear of any untoward activities that could disrupt the elections, noting that the police and other security agencies are well-equipped to tackle any security threats.

In addition, AIG Egbetokun highlighted the no-movement order that has been issued by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for election day, which is scheduled to take effect from 12am to 6pm. He stressed that the order would be strictly enforced, and any person caught violating it would be arrested, except for essential workers and those on election duty with their valid tags. Furthermore, AIG Egbetokun urged voters to come out in large numbers, conduct themselves properly, and vote peacefully. He also advised them to disregard any fake news, hate speech, or other divisive propaganda that could lead to violence or other forms of disorderliness.

To ensure that the elections are free, fair, and credible, the police and other security agencies have set up various measures, including increased surveillance, intelligence gathering, and the deployment of sufficient personnel to all polling units and other critical locations. They have also collaborated with other stakeholders, such as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and civil society organisations, to ensure that the elections are conducted according to the law and best practices.
