Is This Not Another Colonization? A Chinese Man Conferred With The Onowu Title In Nsukka.
It came as a rumor but later it was confirmed by a Nsukka Lady who said she was present on the occasion of Conferment. And I asked, is this not another form of Colonization?
That is what it may look like. Onowu title in Igbo land is the second to the highest title after the king. They are called the kingmaker. A king will not be crowned in the absence of Onowu. He is also the second in command to the king. He can take decisions for the kingdom along with the cabinet members in the absence of the king.
Onowu is qualified to act as a king for the people in the event of the sudden death of a king or upon his disappearance. He is also fit to become the next king.

Given a foreigner, a traditional title is not bad at all. That is if the person so merits it. But there should be a boundary. Conferring a foreigner a title of Onowu when there are still men in the kingdom is like going to the Queen of England palace and obtaining the title of Prince or Princess of England. This is very impossible of course.
