I Wouldn’t Have Won Without You – Tinubu Hails Wike.
Bola Tinubu, the president-elect of Nigeria, has acknowledged the significant support he received from Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state during the presidential campaign. Tinubu made the statement during the commissioning of the Raumuokwuta/Rumuola flyover bridge in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Wednesday.
Speaking at the event, Tinubu stated that he won the election “fair and square,” and that he could not have done it without the structural support from Wike.
“I couldn’t have done it without some structural support you gave me which I can’t describe (repay) in my honouring of your invitation to commission this flyover.

“In his excellency, I see a man of principle. He took a principled stance that the presidency must come to the south and he had the courage to stand by his own conviction not minding whose ox is gored.
“He is indeed a man of great integrity, he didn’t choose to serve his own interest, not about him but the interest of the nation. You promoted unity, you promoted fairness, you championed justice. Thank you.
He added that the governor’s principled stance that the presidency must come to the south played a significant role in his victory at the polls.
Tinubu was declared the winner of the presidential election held on March 1 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with a total of 8,794,726 votes. The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Atiku Abubakar came in second with 6,984,520 votes, while Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) came in third with 6,101,533 votes. However, the two runners-up have since taken the matter to court, challenging Tinubu’s victory through judicial means.

During his speech, Tinubu thanked Wike for his contribution to his victory and said that the governor’s strength of character was the reason he honoured the invitation to commission the flyover project. Tinubu went on to describe Wike as a man of principle who took a principled stance that the presidency must come to the south and had the courage to stand by his conviction, regardless of whose ox was gored. He added that Wike was a man of great integrity who championed justice, promoted unity, and fairness, and didn’t serve his own interests but that of the nation.

Tinubu’s comments come amid an ongoing legal battle between the APC and the PDP over the election results. The PDP has accused the APC of electoral malpractice and rigging in several states, including Rivers. The APC, on the other hand, has accused the PDP of colluding with foreign powers to interfere in the electoral process. Both parties have engaged in unending media tussles since the election results were announced.
