Enugu Diocese Mourns Very Rev  Chike Ikeotuonye Nwizu. It was a moment of sadness today at the Cathedral Church of the GoodSheperd Anglican Communion in Enugu Diocese as the remains of the former and retired Provost of the Diocese, the late Very Rev Chike Nwizu.



Marmot crowd from all walks of life; far and near gathered at the Chike Nwizu Hall at the Cathedral as the remains of the fearless and fierce clergyman lie in state for commendation service.

The Very Rev. Barrister Chike was ordained by the pioneer Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Enugu, the Late Rt Rev’d Gideon Otubelu. He rose to the position of a Venerable in the Anglican Communion and then a Provost of the Cathedral.

According to history, Very Rev. Chike Nwizu was the first Provost in the Cathedral Church of the Good Shepherd. He was also the last Provost. This means that after him, the Diocese of Enugu is yet to have another Provost of the Cathedral.

However, there was a Provost of the Diocese before him. The late  Very Rev. Okeke was also a provost of the Diocese at the Pro-Cathedral, St. Bath’s Asata.

About the Very Rev. Chike Ikeotuonye Nwizu

The retired provost of the Good Shepherd Cathedral, Very Rev Chike Nwizu was born on 31st October 1933 to the family of Nwizu in Ndiakwu Otolo Nnewi North Local Government Area. He was the former president of, Enugu Chamber of Commerce.

Before he was ordained a priest in the 1980s, he was known for his fervent commitment to the Anglican Communion. He had held the positions of Peoples’ Warden and Treasurer in the Communion before he became a Priest.

Chike Nwizu was a wealthy businessman, a factory machines dealer in Enugu. His philanthropy and benevolence nature endeared him to many.


He was a student of Federal Government College Owerri. He graduated in 1951. The Late Chike Nwizu after his retirement as a clergyman proceeded to law school.

He was called to the bar. Before his death, he was a practicing lawyer and owns a chamber.

The Late Chike Nwizu celebrated 87 years birthday last year October 2020. He died on 31st March 2021. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nneamaka Nwizu, Children, and Grandchildren.

Cathedral of Good Shepherd was at a standstill as a huge crowd came to pay last respect for the vibrant and fierce clergyman. His remains lie in state for commendation service presided by the Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province and Bishop of Enugu, the Most Rev’d E. O. Chukwuma OON.


Other Bishops in attendance were: the Piooner Bishop of Awgu Aninri Diocese, the Rt Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Ugwu, and Bishop of Udi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Chijioke Aneke.

The homely was given by the Pioneer Bishop of Awgu Aninri who also gave the brief life history of the Late Chike Nwizu. The theme of his sermon is “Change your parking position”. The text was taken from Mark 4: 31 – 35.

Provost Chike Nwizu’s body will be taken to his hometown, Ndiakwu Otollo tomorrow, 18 June 2021 for a funeral service.

In a final note by the Bishop of the Diocese and the Archbishop of the Province, the Most Rev. E. O. Chukwuma, he thanked all the dignitaries and the people who gathered to pay the last respect for the late Very Rev. Chike Nwizu. He used the opportunity to elegized the clergyman for the indelible footmark he has left in the Diocese.


This he said, pointing to gigantic edifices which were built by the Diocese during his administration as the Provost. He also praised his undying commitment and achievements to the church and to his environment. He pointed that he lived according to the name he bore ‘Ikeotunoye”.

Renditions were given by the Diocesan choir and by the old boys Association of his Amarmater, Federal Government College, who came in their full regalia. The serving Archddeacons of the Diocese also gave renditions in the honor of their fallen colleague.

Mrs Chiemeka Nwizu dies



 

The death has been announced of the wife of the Late Very Rev Chike Ikeotuonye Nwizu who was laid to rest in his hometown Nnewi, barely 48hours ago. She was said to have passed on this early hour of Monday, 21 June 2021.

Mrs. Chiemeka Chike Nwizu died in her husband’s resident house in GRA, Enugu. Her corpse has been taken to Otolo Nnewi, Anambra State, her husband’s hometown for burial.
